The students in Mr. Smith’s calculus class attended the 54th annual Math Day at Washburn University on November 12, 2024. Math Day is an annual event hosted by Washburn, and this year 173 students from 24 high schools participated.
In the morning, all the students took a competitive math test over algebra with both individual and team medals being awarded.
In the afternoon, students went on a scavenger hunt, called “the Mathnificent Race.” The scavenger hunt had teams go around campus finding information that would help them answer a sequence of math problems as quickly as possible.
After all the teams returned from the scavenger hunt, Washburn held a raffle for 2 senior scholarships. Royal Valley’s own Xavier Stewart won one of the $1000 dollar scholarships offered. Congratulations to Xavier and the rest of the calculus class.
